Garage Door Services - Garage Doors

This section is designed to help you decide which Garage door you would ideally like to help complete the look of your home.

Different garage doors, require different headroom due to varying parts and components, and this is where the FREE SURVEY becomes invaluable.

Here you will find the different types of doors available on the market, their opening mechanism and some key features and benefits which will help guide you to that perfect Garage door.

Sectional Garage Doors

Sectional Garage DoorsAvailable in Steel, Timber and GRP (Fibre Glass), sectional garage doors are the very best of the garage door family,  and can be fitted to most garage openings.

They can maximise the drive through width of your garage as they are often fitted on the rear face of the garage opening. Because of this, the shape of your structural opening is no longer of prime importance. Whether square, angled or arched a sectional garage door always gives a perfect fit. more on Sectional Garage Doors >>

Roller Garage Doors

Roller Garage DoorsRoller doors are fitted on the rear face of the garage opening, maximizing width and removing the need for a timber frame.

They are ideal for short driveways because the door rises vertically and does not kickout. more on Roller Garage Doors >>

Up and Over Garage Doors

Up and Over Garage DoorsThe well known term of "Up and Over doors" come in 2 forms of opening mechanism, Canopy and Retractable garage doors.

Both types of Up and Over garage door kick out at the bottom when opened and need to run on an existing timber or steel frame or canbe supplied with a new steel or timber frame. more on Up and Over Garage Doors >>

Side Hinged Garage Doors

Side Hinged Garage DoorsSometimes known as 'Barn Doors', these traditional side hinged garage doors are available in Steel, Timber, GRP & ABS for openings up to 8ft wide, some styles are available for wider openings on request.

Side hung garage doors are available in a variety of styles to suit your home. They are ideal if your garage will not allow for any tracked door mechanism such as a sectional or up & over garage door. more on Side Hinged Garage Doors >>

Sectional Garage Doors vs Roller Garage Doors

Most people talk of a roller door when thinking about an automated garage door, and when you read the information on them, you will see there seems to be little difference in the two.
Most of the time it is purely a cosmetic decision, the Sectional Garage Door comes in many more designs enabling you to have a door that compliments the style of your home e.g. Georgian panels, or a contemporary look, and the option of upgrading the insulation - making it a more robust door.
However the Roller Garage Door door does not require a track system, therefore leaving you with more ceiling space within the Garage.
Roller Garage Doors are made of alluminium, reducing the need for regular servicing and maintenance.
Both doors being an ideal choice for coastal properties - the choice is yours!

Having a survey, leaves you with all the information needed, to help you make the right decision on the type of garage door that meets your needs, but equally with No Obligation.

Different Materials For Garage Doors

These traditional style wooden garage doors are constructed from various timbers. The most popular is solid Cedar and Cedar /Marine plywood combination which are used for sectional, up and over and side hinged doors. These come treated with a clear base coat for you to finish in the woodstain of your choice, or with the option of upgrading to a fully finished factory applied stain. Other softwood and hardwood timbers are available from manufacturers such as Hormann, Silvelox, Rundum Meir, Novoferm & Teckentrup include:

  • Chestnut
  • Douglas
  • European Oak
  • Hemlock
  • Larch
  • Meranti
  • Nordic Pine
  • Okoume
  • Sapele
  • Superior Spruce
  • Teak

Timber garage doors are available with Canopy, Retractable, Sectional, or Round-the-Corner mechanisms, and can also be Side Hinged.

If you prefer we can supply you with the Hormann Open for Infill which is a garage door 'chassis' frame for you to infill with your own choice of timber to your own unique design

ABS - Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Plastic

ABS garage doors, (also known as plastic, PVC, PVCu, uPVC) closely match and complement the finish of today's widely available white PVCu roofline, window and door products and share their durability and maintenance free nature.

Constructed using the same material as car bumpers, ABS panels create a strong lightweight door with high dent resistant qualities.

Where a garage door is required to closely match other PVCu features in your home then the ABS range is the obvious choice

All ABS garage doors are available with canopy mechanism or retractable mechanism and can also be Side Hung.

GRP - Glass Reinforced Polyester (Fibreglass) Garage Doors

Fibreglass is a tough and durable material which is virtually maintenance free and does not need staining or finishing. There are a wide range of GRP garage door designs available in both gloss white and woodgrain which replicates the beauty of the grain in timber.

There are 19 woodgrain colours including Oak (light, dark, mid), Mahogany, Rosewood, Teak, Ebony and Chestnut. With GRP Garage Doors there is no surcharge for made to measure sizes.

There are various qualities of GRP garage door, depending on the chosen manufacturer, defined by thickness of the GRP panel, translucency to light and the type of frame used for the door panel itself.

All GRP garage doors are available with canopy mechanism or retractable mechanism and can also be Sectional or Side Hinged.

When ordering your GRP garage door online be sure to specify the finish to be applied to the reverse of the door.

Reverse Sides:

  • Option 1 Bonded over for a more attractive finish.
  • Option 2 Completely coated to give a smooth and even appearance and lessen the effects of translucency.
  • Option 3 The rear of the door is covered in a flat panel that fully conceals all the framework.
  • Option 4 As above, but the door is fully insulated before the panel is applied

Steel doors are sturdy and tough, and manufactured from corrosion resistant galvanized steel. They will provide years of reliable, hard wearing service.
Steel garage doors are available in many styles and can be ordered as an up and over garage door, ( canopy or retractable ), sectional and side hinged.
